Story of The Monkey King (2023) Movie
A monkey born from a stone on a mountain disrupts the Jade Emperor and is banished. Buddha appears and instructs him to find his purpose. Monkey finds a troop of other monkeys but his unruly nature keeps him from fitting in. He trains to fight demons, but his training proves ineffective. Monkey turns a glowing column into a staff and escapes, defeating the demon and rescuing the cub. He crowns himself King of the Monkeys but decides to kill 100 demons to become a god.
Monkey King and Lin, an agent of the Dragon King, fight the Dragon King to reclaim his prized weapon. They reach a graveyard, where Monkey King opens a portal to Hell and gains immortality. King Yama recognizes them as outsiders and fights them. Monkey King steals Yama’s Book of Everlasting Life and learns to eat a peach from the Orchard of Everlasting Life to gain full immortality. Lin and Monkey King infiltrate the Jade Palace’s pharmacy to create a sample of the elixir, but Monkey King accidentally consumes one himself.
Lin admits to wanting to make a difference in the world and encourages Monkey King to do the same. Lin delivers the staff to the Dragon King, who reneges on his deal. Lin tricks the Dragon King into blasting him with lightning, making him stronger. Monkey King becomes power-drunk, and Lin challenges him to leap off Buddha’s hand to win rulership over Heaven. He is imprisoned in a mountain, and Lin leaves him his staff for company. Five hundred years later, an enlightened Monkey King is freed from prison by a monk, pig, and river spirit, who invite him to join them on a journey to the West.
